The research background, problem statement, research questions and objectives are outlined in this paper. Electronic banking (e-banking) includes systems (websites) that enable financial institution customers, both individuals and businesses, to access accounts, transact business, or obtain information on financial products and services (Oxford Online dictionary, 2012).Customers access e-banking services using an intelligent electronic device, such as a personal computers and smart phones. The features and use of internet banking varies from bank to bank and with growing and penetration of internet usage in Botswana most banks also found the need to introduce internet banking to ease payment and reduce long queues at banks. Botswana has population of about 2 million people and about 61% of them live in urban and Modern villages. Most of the urban area are developed and have coverage of mobile networks which can be used on smart phones to access the internet. Many of the people over the age of 15 years are able to read and write, though mainly in their local language. Literacy rates were estimated around 81.2% in 2003 (lndexmundi, 2011 ).   1.2 Research BackgroundThere are only 10 banks in Botswana and 4 have established strong stand in market share. With regard to internet banking most of the banks are still at infant stage and offer small services such as checking the balance and transferring money within same bank. Fnb has launched internet banking site and people are still skeptical about using it because they prefer going to the bank. This issue is caused by lack of knowledge about use of internet banking. Most banks also partnered with cellular companies to ease payments and reduce queues banks but people still prefer to go to Dstv or water utilities to pay their bills. In 2012 the use of smart phones increased and mobile operators companies (mascom ,orange, be mobile)  also encourage use of smart phones. Smart phones comes with benefit of internet which is required for internet banking and still people don’t utilize the goodness that comes with smart phones. The Technology Acceptance Model hypothesizes that system use is directly determined by behavioural intention to use, which is in turn influenced by users’ attitudes toward using the system and the perceived usefulness of the system. 1.3 Problem StatementDespite the growth internet usage in Botswana, internet banking has not shown growth because banks don’t provide enough education to its clients about how to use internet banking. Most people are skeptical about internet banking security which can be considered as job of banks to assure its client that they are well secured when. In developed countries, Australia has been found to be successful in the use of the internet. Among developing nations, Malaysia, Thailand, Brazil and Estonia are realizing huge growth and in Africa, Nigeria is leading in the adoption of internet banking. Although all these countries, have grasped the benefits of internet banking in terms of cost and convenience, there have been concerns on security and difficulty of use.
